Protocol III · Multi-Generational

The Legacy Ledger.

A multi-generational accounting tool. What you are depositing into your children's future marriages — whether you know it or not, whether you signed for it or not.

The Premise

Marriages are inherited, not invented.

Every marriage begins with two ledgers already opened — one inherited from each side of the aisle. The fights, the silences, the survival patterns, the way conflict is handled (or not). Children watch. They imitate without intending to. They marry into the patterns they grew up next to.

The Legacy Ledger is the framework for naming what is being deposited and what is being overdrawn — not just into your marriage, but into the marriages of your children, and their children.

It is the accounting tool for what cannot be returned. Words spoken once. Patterns repeated for thirty years. The Sunday afternoons your children remember. The way you spoke about their other parent in their presence. The repair you made — or refused.

The marriage you build is also the marriage your children inherit. You are not raising children. You are raising future spouses.

The Three Disciplines

How the ledger gets kept.

I

The Inheritance Audit

Naming what was deposited into your ledger before you opened your own — by your parents, your grandparents, the marriages you watched. The patterns you swore you would never repeat are usually the patterns you are most likely to.

II

The Deposit Discipline

A weekly account of what your children are watching you deposit. Not a guilt log — a steward's log. What did your marriage model this week? What did the repair look like? Who saw it?

III

The Transfer Statement

The deliberate, named handoff. The conversations with your adult children about what was modeled, what you would do differently, what you hope they take forward, what they should leave behind. The ledger, closed honestly.

The Tool

The Legacy Ledger is built into the book.
